DESCRIPTION:Karen Acres Fund Run\n\n5K Walk/Run\n\nFriday\, May 12th at 1:00 p.m.\n\n(Rain Date: Friday\, May 19th)\n\nKaren Acres Elementary\n\n\n\nTucked away in the small neighborhood of Karen Acres\, lies the "little school that could." Just a few\n\nyears ago\, Karen Acres Elementary was struggling academically and was listed as a school in need of\n\nassistance. Through this time\, the principal\, teachers\, students\, parents\, and community volunteers\n\nhave worked hard to change this momentum. This year\, Karen Acres Elementary (lovingly known as\n\nKA)\, received a great distinction being named a high performing school according to the Iowa School\n\nReport Card by the Iowa Department of Education. It is the only school in the Urbandale School District\n\nwith this ranking and is among the top 14% of all schools statewide.\n\n(Check out our accomplishments here:\n\nhttp://reports.educateiowa.gov/schoolreportcard/home/reportcard?yr=2016&sch=65790427&type=elementary ).\n\nWhile the school has made huge strides academically\, we are facing some financial needs and are asking\n\nfor your support and help. The PTO will be sponsoring a schoolwide 5K fun run for the students and\n\ntheir families to raise money for both annual and one-time needs. We must raise $10\,000 to pay for\n\nthis year's field trips\, needed classroom supplies\, and school activities. If additional monies are raised\,\n\nthe playground and exterior is in need of soccer goals (the kids use "invisible" goal posts) and capital\n\nimprovement projects after our remodel and renovation.
